“What do you want to be?” That question—and the entire college planning and application process—can be scary and overwhelming to a lot of high school and college students. (As a matter of fact, there are many adults who are still struggling to figure it out.) That’s why we wanted to offer help for students wondering where they should go to school, what they want to major in and what career choices they should consider.
With more than 30 years’ experience helping people become the best they can be, we developed our Student Career Coaching services to work primarily with high school juniors and seniors. We dive deep into their personality and behavior to help them understand where their strengths lie, what careers would complement those strengths, and what colleges are best to pursue for those careers. We then help them develop the skills to apply and stand out from the crowd through our individualized coaching options.
Our Process
We start with exploratory conversations with students and their families to build relationships, develop trust and get a sense of interests and expectations.
For a deeper dive into their strengths, challenges and personalities, students complete our Performance Dynamics® assessment. This tool helps us clearly and objectively identify 17 personality and behavioral characteristics:
- Energy
- Dominance
- Reflectiveness
- Authority
- Discipline
- Competition
- Compromise
- Decision Making
- Communication
- Social Skills
- Reward
- Goodwill
- Expertise
- Collaboration
- Stability
- Avoidance
- Accommodation
After this assessment, we have feedback and student career coaching sessions with students and families to help them understand their results and styles, preferences, strengths and areas for development.
From there, we develop an action plan and a list of schools, majors and career choices that seem like a good fit based on each student’s development profile and interests. Once we have a plan in place, we proceed with the next steps for college admissions, including assistance with college essay writing and the application process, along with college resume differentiation. We help students learn how they can stand out when applying to college by highlighting their competitive advantages.
For students and families looking for an even more immersive experience, we also offer a Level 2 Student Career Coaching service. Beyond the services above, this includes things like connections with mentors and clients for internships and future careers, mock interviews and workshops to enhance interviewing skills for college admissions and applying for jobs, practiced learning, platform skills presentations, college application working sessions, workshops for parents and more.
